The Kingsley Spargo Trio return to Kumeu Live
The Kingsley Spargo trio finally return to Kumeu Live on Sat 24 September.
Renowned jazz musicians in their own right, Kingsley Spargo, Neil Watson and Chris Orange make for a unique brand in their genre-bending show. Kingsley Spargo shifts effortlessly from trumpet to vocals; the front man eager to debut songs from his upcoming album as well as favourites from much acclaimed 2019 album Chasing Spirits. No stranger to the stage, Spargo has delighted audiences alongside Don McGlashan, Tim Finn, Violent Femmes and Witi Ihimaera.
Double bassist Chris Orange takes a break from the wild side, the punk musician from The Features and the Terrorways demonstrating his uncanny ability to change the pace. Virtuoso Neil Watson mesmerises audiences performing pedal steel & guitar, creating the kind of rich aural texture that must be experienced live. Watson can also be heard with Tami Neilson or Neil Finn, it’s this unique approach to improvising that never fails to enthral. Enjoy a taste of their last Kumeu Live gig here.
New works from spoken-word artist Kim Meredith capture the heart of Pasifika zeitgeist, with Kingsley Spargo on sound-art duties. The duo recently performed at the opening of ‘I’ve Made Up My Mind’ here.
