Songbroker Welcomes Wayne Gillespie
Songbroker is very pleased to welcome the songs of Wayne Gillespie.
Kiwi born singer / songwriter Wayne Gillespie has been making quality music in New Zealand and Australia since his independent debut release Wayward Son (1984).
Wayward Son made it to the finals of the NZ Music Awards, with the track ‘Away with You’ also winning an APRA award that same year.
Gillespie began his career busking in Paris Subways, later playing original music in London folk clubs and Sydney cafes, before returning to Auckland in the early 80s.
His follow up release New Locations (1987), produced by Trevor Lucas (Fairport Convention, Sandy Denny, Goanna), achieved critical acclaim and chart success in New Zealand. Later came the album Living in Exile (released through Sony in 1993), the EP Love Comes Down (released with his Sydney band Passionfish in 1995) and Live at The Bunker (released with Nigel Gavin in 2005). Gillespie also had a hand in producing, writing, and performing as a guest on The Narcs’ album Push the Boat Out.
Following a 12-year musical hiatus, Gillespie has now returned with an album of co-writes alongside Sydney drummer Rob Grosser, with their album Delusions set for release in June 2021.
