Deeply rooted in his afro-centric origins and percussion, hummerhummer brings forth a combination of the world's finest sounds and instruments to create afro-house and Afro-POP Dance music.
Unique in style and refreshing in sonics, hummerhummer's production is a certified dance-evoking plethora of rhythms and melodies that seem familiar to the soul but unfamiliar to any other producer.
Gwanga Mujje the title of his latest album, is a Ugandan word meaning ‘community gathering’; calling all community members together.
“The title and concept comes from the drum that the villages used to drum calling the locals in case of any important event eg. when the king or chief had a message to pass out or if they where heading to war or just to gather for a local brew and bonfire.”
“I started creating the album during covid lock down when we weren’t allowed to meet up with anyone or leave our houses or even attend family burials.” says hummerhummer. “I made the beats and songs but sadly I couldn’t get most artists to collaborate with vocals as they couldn’t access studios in other countries. I wanted to have different artists from different countries - that would have been a good world community gathering!”
He persevered and the result is a collection of 16 songs with infectious afro beats and beautiful lyrical or instrumental hooks conveying feelings of love, celebration and coming together.
Catch hummerhummer on October 22nd at the Nesian Festival at Vodafone Events Centre.
