Songbroker Song of the Day: Hallelujah Picassos 'Rewind'
Resident in Auckland from 1988 to 1996, Hallelujah Picassos can be described as a group of happy musical misfits. Their sound is a mash-up of genres, labelled as ska-punk-reggae-indie-thrash-hip-hop-hardcore or as they like to describe it, simply 'Picasso Core'.
It's fair to say there was no one quite like them across the nation at the time; they were entirely unique. The group was famous for their live shows and in turn opened for a number of notable acts including Violent Femmes, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Faith No More, African Head Charge, Beastie Boys, Body Count and Ice T.
Reuniting in 2012 for a series of live shows and a revival of their previous works, the lads of the Picassos were so thrilled to be back together that they continued! They’ve released two new singles this year on Bandcamp.
