New album for Hallelujah Picassos

Hallelujah Picassos were a bunch of happy musical misfits, resident in Auckland from 1988 until 1996. Their sound mashed up a bunch of genres, and was labelled ska-punk-reggae-indie-thrash-hiphop-hardcore, or as they liked to call it, Picasso Core.

The Picassos were famous for their incendiary live shows, which the band liked to describe as “search and destroy”.

Following their Rewind The Hateman and Picasso Core Jukebox reissues in 2011 and 2012, Hallelujah Picassos returned to the live scene, playing a handful of shows with the likes of Drab Doo RiffsBloodbagsLoud Ghost, and Labretta Suede and the Motel 6. The band continued onwards, writing some new music which has finally come together on a new album entitled Voices of Exuberant Hellhounds.

The collection of songs are inspired by Hymns, Psalms, Chants and Mantras woven into a twisted narrative with Roland Rorschach’s melancholic vocals at the fore.

The album features the last recordings from the band’s drummer Bobbylon, who passed away in May 2018. The album is dedicated to him.

Voices of Exuberant Hellhounds is available from bandcamp and at Flying Out Record Store.
