Brookes & Johnstone sign to Songbroker

Songbroker is pleased to welcome the music of Brookes & Johnstone to the roster.

Zed Brookes and Andrew Johnstone met at Mobil Hillcrest, Hamilton sometime in the mid-1980s. Andrew was pumping gas, Zed was driving a van containing all sorts of musical equipment. Andrew asked about it and Zed said he was building a recording studio just around the corner up on Morrinsville Rd. He suggested Andrew pop in sometime. The rest, as they say, is history. In 1995 they released their debut album The Wallflower, a sort of sci-fi country album which sold around 240 copies.

Reconnecting in 2015 in Auckland, over the next two and half years Brookes & Johnstone quietly evolved into a boutique label called Rhythmstick with a small roster of artists under development. Central to the cause is their own work. Their latest album L.O.V.E was released earlier this year and has been a long time in the making.

Stay tuned for forthcoming singles ‘Dreams and Will Collide’ (due August 2018) inspired in part by the films of Hayao Miyazaki, ‘Something In The Way That’ and ‘Under The Light Of A Full Moon’.
