WAYNE GILLESPIE AND FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT 'DELUSIONS'
Sydney-based New Zealand songwriter and musician, Wayne Gillespie (and Famous Blue Raincoat) recently released his new album FRAZZ and the latest single from it is the lovely guitar chime and gentle slide and theremin interplay of 'Delusions'.
‘Delusions’ is song about the difficulty those experiencing severe mental health issues have obtaining and sustaining appropriate treatment, particularly in an underfunded public health system. With the closure of residential inpatient faculties in the 90's the streets and the jails have become the home of many sufferers of severe mental health illnesses.
An Auckland born Sydney resident, Wayne was, many lifetimes ago, a tennis coach, pharmacist and D&A counsellor.
Wayne is also an accomplished songwriter/performer/record producer, releasing material in each decade from 80's. He was a Finalist NZ Music Award 1984 & 1988) and has performed with Suzanne Vega, Ed Keupper, Chris Whitley, Stan Ridgeway, Dave Dobbyn, Margaret Urlich etc. He moved to Australia to record and play music in 1988.
Added to all this Wayne is a psychologist and did his thesis on the Personality of Rock Musicians Many Australian musicians were interviewed for this.
Wayne now specialises in working with people in creative and performing arts in combination with returning to career as songwriter recording via the FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT moniker.
