Songbroker Song of the Day: Kong Fooey - 'The Mahina Shuffle'
Auckland based Hip-hop funk soul outfit Kong Fooey earned themselves a solid and loyal kiwi fan base with their tight musicianship, funky beats and high-energy crowd-pleasing performances.
Their first gig was at the Christchurch Beer Festival playing for 12,000 people before Supergroove hit the stage, they have also played Sounds on the Oval playing with Trinity Roots, Tiki Taane, Black Seeds & David Dallas. Their first album Final Destination released in 2015 received excellent reviews including a 5 star review from the Otago times.
All beats and music for Final Destination were written / produced by Jason Peters (ex Pumpkinhead) who collaborated with fellow Cantabrians Jamie Greenslade (aka Maitreya) ex Dark Tower, The Babysitter Circus) and cousin Alice Egan (aka Topaz), plus talented Singer/Guitarist David Haslett.
The Mahina Shuffle is an upbeat, feel good instrumental groove with a fun retro vibe, just crying out for visual accompaniment.
