"Kanohi ki te Kanohi"; Face to Face with Emily Rice

“Kanohi ki te Kanohi” can be translated as “face to face, or in person”. The title of Emily Rice’s third single - out today, “Kanohi ki te Kanohi” follows the trajectory of her new chillDnB/RnB-pop sound and is a precursor to her new EP ‘Auaha’, out soon.

“This is a song that started with a beautiful poem by Emma Howan, who I met through "Auaha April" - an invitation to create daily with different topics shared in a group through the lockdown in Aotearoa last year.

This particular song came as an Easter Sunday refection. To me, it’s about the vulnerability of being fully yourself, real and raw and fully human. Face to face with who we really are - seeing ourselves for who we are made to be; which is beautiful, but it’s not always easy.

The music video was made by my sweet friend @hellobekahope, exactly one week before I had my baby girl Olive - celebrating the beauty of being hapū and the joy of carrying this new little life inside of me.”
