Artist Profile: Jayson Norris
UK based artist Jayson Norris combines his love of singer-songwriters, indigenous music, roots and rock with tones, harmonies and melodies from his cultural and musical heritage of New Zealand to create his distinct sound of acoustic roots-rock.
It was in his late teens that Norris began writing songs, performing them at his high school and recording with an old stereo. Norris then went on to earn a diploma in music, majoring in songwriting while simultaneously performing at night to fund his studies.
It was at these shows he coined his iconic and dynamic use of the loop station that would go on to become an integral part of his live performance.
Currently based in London, Jayson performs and works all over the globe, headlining both his own tours and opening for the likes of INXS, Shihad, Blue King Brown, The Blackseeds, Six60, Tiki Taane, Katchafire, The Feelers, I Am Giant, Dave Dobbyn and more.
Norris has released a number of albums and singles independently, gaining national chart success and securing him an invite to join the Kiwi collective Fly My Pretties who toured New Zealand in 2011. Norris’ songs can often be heard on Australian soaps Home and Away and Neighbours.
