Crown Law concert to feature Lilburn’s 'Prodigal Country'
At St Andrews on the Terrace on December 17th, Crown Law presents Counsel in Concert - Songs of Aotearoa, a series of performances of well-loved waiata performed by Wellington lawyers and staff, supported by members of the NZSO and Orchestra Wellington. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Child Cancer Foundation.
Songs featured include favourite waiata and classic hits by Split Enz, Crowded House and Dave Dobbyn as well as Douglas Lilburn’s ‘Prodigal Country’. This composition is Lilburn’s only full-length choral work, the swirling shape, and rhythms dictated by the poems he set the music to, namely Robin Hyde’s ‘Journey from New Zealand’, Allen Curnow’s ‘New Zealand City’, and Walt Whitman’s ‘Song of Myself’.
