SONGBROKER ARTIST PROFILE : Q & A with Trevor Faville of DateMonthYear

DateMonthYear makes music that combines rock dynamics, cinematic atmospherics and pop melodies. We asked band member Trevor Faville some pertinent questions about himself.

When did you realise you wanted to make music?

Probably late teens…Music seemed to keep finding me until I started to play it.

Name two major musical influences and why?

I have always loved Tom Waits' singular vision and his steadfast focus on his own direction. His music is never boring. Leaving aside Bowie for now, I am constantly inspired by the work of Robert Fripp and Miles Davis. There is so much in their music, I can start anywhere and dive in…and it always teaches me something new.

What do you find most challenging about the creative process?

Finishing…or at least knowing when to say "stick a fork in it, its done" and move on. I find it really easy to overcook stuff.

What do you want people to take away from your music?

I want people to react, think, and come back to listen again. People can take away whatever they want.

What’s in the pipeline for 2016?

Right then! a triple video release on Jan 15th, Two gigs in hamilton on the 12th and 13th of March, and an album to finish!
