Sven Olsen’s Brutal Canadian Love Saga Live at Tararua Tramping Club Hall, Wellington

Wellington chamber pop outfit Sven Olsen’s Brutal Canadian Love Saga returns with another sonic slice of life in Aotearoa/New Zealand. The 12-strong collective has spent the past two years, holed up in a tiny apartment in Webb Street recording and mixing a whole bunch of songs about what makes people in this country tick. This band sings about stuff that others don’t, won’t or can’t. This time they’ve lent their melodies to topics as varied as:

• the Fencing Act 1979

• Inky, Napier's escaping lovelorn octopus

• the road etiquette of mattresses roped to the roofs of cars

• boogie boarding dare devil Dr. Bubbles taking on Huka Falls,

• the closure of public swimming pools due to ‘Code Brown’ alerts,

• kung fu dancing on the roof of chicken restaurants, and

• the overworked cellphones of perfing local policemen.

The Svens will sing an hour’s worth of material from this new ‘magnum ‘opeless’ at the Wgtn Fringe Festival. This show will be a celebration of national quirks, perks and potholes, baffling and fascinating in equal measure, and gloriously short and to the point. There’ll be strings, singers and a band. There’ll be multimedia. There’ll be merch. And there could be you.

Tararua Tramping Club Hall, 4 Moncrieff St, Mt Victoria . 7pm - 8.15pm , Fri March 20, Sat March 21.  Entry is free/koha.
