MARTIN BREEZE

Martin Breeze is a Melbourne based songwriter who paints and a painter who writes songs.

Martin studied Jazz and Improvised music at the Adelaide Conservatorium in the late 80’s, before moving to Melbourne in 1992.  He joined up with a number of well-known jazz musicians and performed both nationally and internationally before releasing his first album of all original material, titled Strangers (Newmarket Music 1999).

In 2004 he independently released his second album Last Man on Earth with his band Blackbird, yet again with all original songs.

2006 saw the release of Live at the Edge (Exero Music) which were a series of live recordings performed at The Edge, Federation Square in Melbourne.  This was a departure from his song writing, developing his vocal skills in exploring a number of obscure past tunes from other artists.  Released through I-tunes these songs charted well in Spain and Italy.

Similarly, in 2008 Martin released Ruby’s Arms (ABC Music) featuring a number of songs from the 80’s, reworked with his selected band of musicians.  Songs from this album have appeared on a number of ABC compilation recordings such as “Light that never goes out” and “Some like it Hot”.

These days, after a 10 year break from music to pursue a number of business opportunities, Martin has returned to his love of creativity.  He records songs at his home studio which is only a stone’s throw from where he paints his large abstract canvas artworks.   His large and flamboyant works are the result of any creative block that he feels when song writing.  He’s now convinced that both Music and Art are an integral component to his ongoing creative process.
