Davey Beige new single 'Rise Above'

Davey Beige’s new single ‘Rise Above’ is a song about taking stock in life and realising that the best way to deal with personal issues is to open up to the healing and redemptive power of LOVE!

 Later this month, a cool stop-motion video for ‘Rise Above’ will be revealed. This video is being produced by Hamilton film and comic maker Aaron Christiansen.

 Following the ‘Rise Above’ single, Davey’s new EP of the same name is set to drop in May of 2022. The four songs on the EP are shaped by his recent passion for synths and drum machines. Davey collaborated on the music with experienced producer and musician Zed Brookes. The result as Davey describes the EP is ‘electro-rock’.

He says, “The songs just kept on getting bigger and bigger as we added more guitars and electronic instrumentation. Sometimes this approach doesn’t always work but as we added more sounds and flavours the tracks felt really epic, so at a certain point we just went with it.”

 Davey Beige is a singer-songwriter who plays folk, blues, rock and electro-rock. At one time over a dozen beige suits filled his wardrobe. A majority of this historic menswear collection featured fawn safari suits and these were the genesis for his stage name.

Independent Music NZ have just announced this year’s recipient of the prestigious Classic Record. Look Blue Go Purple’s Compilation, released in 1991 via Flying Nun Records, takes out this year’s prize. Look Blue Go Purple played a pivotal role in the second wave of the pioneering indie rock movement known as the “Dunedin Sound”. In the overwhelmingly male-dominated Dunedin scene and wider indie music landscape, this all-female group stood out. Whilst the quintet certainly had the distinctive jangly, gently psychedelic, lo-fi Flying Nun sound, the combined vocals of Roughan, Webster and O’Malley created a synthesis that further set them apart. Songbroker welcomes Evan Rhys Born and raised in Taranaki, New Zealand, Evan is the former front man for old skool Waikato band, ‘Somersault’. Rhys has used his passion for music to help elevate the lives of those around him. He recorded and released an album of prisoners’ songs entitled, ‘If These Walls Could Speak’. He then went to work with Awa Productions on the critically acclaimed Maori Television series, ‘Songs From The Inside’. Meanwhile Evan’s own songs continued to take shape in the background and have slowly bubbled to the surface. His EP ‘Flickering Stars’ was released in February 2021. It features an eclectic mix of pop songs that are at once nostalgic and new in the same breath.
