Dunedin’s resident alt-pop weirdos, Jaggers x Lines (Eliana Gray and Morgan Smilie) have dipped their hands into the world of grungy jazz for the final single before the release of their impending debut album Burn Cycle. ‘Soft Little Lights’ has the signature scratched up, sample-happy, lyrically dense sound still on display; with delicate piano melodies and a swing we haven’t yet heard from the duo. Guest vocals are provided by Alex Selkirk-Hanna (Beachware). Gray says the lyrical content is, “a reflection on the ways, and relationships, where I’d burn myself out and distract myself from my own brain,” but that the initial spark was provided by, “abject terror that one of the ciggie butts I pitched out my window every night would burn my house down.” Is it a metaphor? You decide. Known for their participatory, high-energy live shows- Jaggers x Lines will be taking the party to Caroline, Wellington with local legends Melting Faces and Namesake on July 13th. Following on from their recent electro, house, soul single 'OUTOFTIME' the Waiheke International Soul Orchestra (W.I.S.O.) release the sexy Prince inspired hip-hop, funk, track 'THETHRILL'. Taken from a forthcoming debut E.P. entitled Round 1, due out in August 2018, the track featuring vocals of Bianca Du Bont alongside founding members Solomon Cole and Dione Denize. After two years of playing in NZ, founding members Lee Catlin & Solomon Cole decided the 9 piece band needed a musical exorcism and a new sound that reflected the current state of play. The resulting E.P. will showcase a revamped collective with 5 brand new tracks. W.I.S.O. return to headline OKERE FALLS Oktoberfest on SAT OCT 20th with more dates to come. Auckland-based pop-soul musician Geoff Ong has shared his newest track ‘Fingerprints’, an infectiously catchy track, accompanied by a dynamic self-shot video filmed on the streets of Tokyo. Recorded in his Kingsland bedroom with production, mixing and mastering by Phil Levine of Igloo Music Studios in Los Angeles, ‘Fingerprints’ demonstrates Geoff’s passion for captivating melodies and personal lyrics, reflecting on the idea of impactful past experiences. “The track is about the feeling of displacement you get after something significant in your life ends – a relationship, a friendship, or a chapter of your life.
