Formed in 2010 in Hawke’s Bay, The Diamond Dead generate a powerful grunge rock sound with metal and punk overtones.
Their latest single ‘No Revolution’ was released December 2018 with it debuting on Brisbane Radio Station 4ZZZ’s show ‘Break Your Fingers Laughing’ a week before the offical release and ‘The NZ Show' on New Year’s Day. Since then it has been playlisted on The Axe Attack and features on NZ Musician’s Spotify playlist ‘Hatchlings – New Kiwi Singles’.
The original lineup of Tyley Burkin, Liv Strawbridge and Kane Riley remains the same, with Tom Mohi joining in 2016 as their third bassist. Member influences include Hole, The Distillers, Gallows, Rage Against the Machine and Marilyn Manson.
In 2015 they released ‘Dumb’, which was playlisted on The Axe Attack NZ and 4ZZZ in Brisbane. This was followed with a feature of the band in the ‘Discovery’ section of ‘The New Zealand Issue’ in Brisbane-based No Cure Magazine, presenting “New Zealand’s most wanted noise makers.”
The band has a decent list of gigs under their belt and have shared the stage with many top Kiwi bands, including performing two years running at New Zealand’s biggest Motorcycle Festival ‘Cold Duck', and after winning the fan-based poll in 2011 were the opening band for I Am Giant in Hawke’s Bay. In 2012 they headlined Sanctuary Sounds festival in Central Hawke’s Bay.
The band’s forthcoming EP ‘Becoming' is due to be released 28 February 2019, followed by a National tour planned for May 2019.
