Matt Pike, Spike, draws on a wide and varied musical experience in his performance and composition. His original music outlet is presented under the moniker; Spike, a nickname he was given at the age of 9.
The most prominent vein throughout his work is that of old fashion rock n roll. A decade of fronting the country’s foremost Led Zeppelin tribute, Whole Lotta Led, realises one of the dreams of his somewhat misspent youth. This could give you an indication of how grounded in this genre he is. However, place that against a career of 25 years on professional theatre and musical theatre stages around the world, an ethnomusicology degree and a passion for lush late-romantic liede, these many broad influences at play create a subtly fresh approach to a well worn groove.
Certainly he is a vocalist with a dynamic range, but also works as a voice over artist. He is a adept multi-instrumentalist and divides his work between music performance, teaching, theatre and film.
