Artist Profile: Danny McCrum
Tāmaki Makaurau based musician, Danny McCrum is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer and podcaster with extensive experience on stage and in the studio. He has worked with and supported many top artists including Eric Clapton, Tommy Emmanuel, John Mayer, John Butler Trio, Jeff Beck, Bryan Ferry, Joan Armatrading, Norah Jones, Jimmy Barnes, Simple Minds and many top New Zealand acts.
Danny has released four albums: Awake & Restless (2007, Elite Music), Say What You Mean (2009, Liberation/Universal), Letters to the Future (2012, Paper Plane) and Hustle Bustle (2019, Paper Plane). He has worked as a session musician for numerous producers and artists including Greg Haver, Stephen Small, Lizzie Marvelly, Peter van Gent, Alex Burke (US), Magnolia Memoir (US), Debbie Harwood, Campbell, Emme Lentino (NZ/US), Venice Quin, Phil Edwards Band, Georgia Lines, AutoMatic 80s and the Michael Jackson tribute show 'King Of Pop’.
Along with Opshop’s Bobby Kennedy, Danny hosts the podcast series Don’t Give Up (dontgiveup.co.nz) where they talk to creative professionals about their experiences in the entertainment business.
Danny and his band Noise Play, have recently released a new album called Junk. The band includes Dan Antunovich and Jasper de Roos with special guest performances by Mark Steven (Hands Off), Stephen Small (Hello Sailor) and Eddie Rayner (Split Enz). Released on December 27th, the new album was coproduced by Danny McCrum and Dan Antunovich and mixed by Scott Seabright.
