Silk Cut unveil video single ahead of new album

Auckland shoegazers Silk Cut are set to release a full length album entitled ‘Our Place In The Stars’ on 22 February 2023.

Leading the band is guitarist, vocalist, and main songwriter Andrew Thorne. Aidan Phillips keeps to bass and backing vocals, whilst Jayden Lee takes the place of Mike Burrows on drums. Justin McLean joins compositional duties with Andrew on track 2, and additional keyboards were provided by Mark Steven and Olly Harmer, with haunting backing vocals by Christina Cusiel.

From the outset the band aimed for an album that would build upon the sonic and melodic ideals of their previous EPs - dreamy and spacious, but with increased drive and weight. The first two songs, ’A Very Special Life’ and ‘I Remember the Winter’ emerged rather, as psychedelic power pop offerings.

A facetious tale of entitlement, ‘A Very Special Life’ is out now, accompanied by warped overlayed visuals of sparkle and excess juxtaposed with ominous laughing clowns and calamitous characters.

Silk Cut have planned a mini tour in conjunction with Plus 1, including a support slot with Hoodoo Gurus in Whangaparaoa on March 1st.
