KRISPY & THE POOCH NEW EP: THE RECKLESS ECLECTIC: PART ONE
Auckland duo Krispy & The Pooch have been hard at work, blending their varied musical influences to create a new 6 track EP of deliciously fresh, soul-stirring, electro-funk tunes with THE RECKLESS ECLECTIC: PART ONE.
The Waiheke Island based duo of Kriston Batistic (aka Krispy) and Simon Townsend (aka The Pooch), have spent the last few years crafting music that is uniquely their own. As a result, they can boast a distinctly modern sound built around lyricist Krispy’s soulful vocals, and The Pooch’s uncanny ear for sweet electro-synth beats.
Written, recorded, and mixed at their Waiheke studio, the EP is the first body of work they have put together since relocating from Berlin, and has yielded 2 singles – hypnotically groovy lockdown number ‘Convenience Funk’, and latest release ‘Don’t Play Yourself’, a smooth R&B-infused song with an upbeat neo-soul groove.
In their inspired and genuine desire to avoid making music that is formulaic, predictable, and genre-bound, Krispy & The Pooch say they have embraced an approach that takes advantage of their diverse influences to “just write songs that get people grooving and having fun.”
They continue, “We wanted to create a project where we could write with no restrictions and just ride the creative wave that rolls in when you come up with a really good lyric, melody, or riff without worrying about how it fits into a specific box. As a result our songs are an eclectic mix of genres and styles, and we often play different instruments, and utilise various skills depending on what the song calls for.”
The Reckless Eclectic: Part One features a horn section made up of talented Waiheke natives Julion Wright (Saxophone) and Jono Benzur (Trumpet), with the team efforts consolidated by the inclusion of gifted Berlin based musicians Nir Sabag(Percussion) and Matt Paull (Synths/Keys).
Krispy & The Pooch sum it up as “a collection of songs inspired by observing natural life and consciousness. It’s about searching for meaning in a materialistic world. It’s about the supernatural. It’s about ambition. It’s about having fun with whatever wonderfully-weird thing is around the corner. We hope you enjoy these tracks as much as we enjoyed making them!”
To celebrate the release of The Reckless Eclectic: Part One, join them at one of their renowned funky live shows as they make a joyful return to performing in June and early July.
