Davey Beige's new EP 'Rise Above'
Following the February release of his “Rise Above” single and cool stop-motion video, Davey Beige has dropped his new EP, of the same name, just in time to celebrate May New Zealand Music Month!
Davey describes the sound of the new EP as ‘electro-rock’.
He says, “I’m super stoked with the sonic impact of the songs, that’s a direct result of collaborating with producer Zed Brookes as well as my recent passion for synths and drum machines”.
However even though the EP has an electronic edge there are also guitars in the mix. Davey played all the guitars on the recordings and enjoyed adding a bit of jingle-jangle, riffage or blues as and when it was required.
A self-reflective mix of recurring themes including love, mindfulness, desire and modern day angst fed into the inspiration for the songwriting on the EP.
The songs while exploring these themes also highlight Davey’s ongoing lyrical fascination with images related to time, the open road, cars, driving at night and dreaming.
He says, “As Zed and I added more guitars and electronic instrumentation the songs just kept on getting bigger and bigger, that might be something to do with the songs themselves and their ideas. Anyway as production progressed the tracks started to feel really epic, so at a certain point we just went with it”.
The Rise Above EP is available on all platforms for streaming and purchase from the 6th of May.
