Ariana Tikao & Al Fraser plus Tararua nominated for Songlines Best Group 2022

Now in their 14th year, the Songlines Music Awards celebrate the wealth of musical talent across the world. UK World music magazine, Songlines has five geographical categories based on the CD reviews sections in Songlines: Africa & Middle East; Americas; Europe; Asia & Pacific and Fusion. From albums reviewed throughout 2021, Songlines contributors will decide on four nominees from each of these five categories (announced April 8), with the eventual winners crowned on May 13 in the June 2022 issue (#178).

Tararua has been nominated in the Best Group category for their 2021 release ‘Bird Like Men’. Tararua is an art music quartet based in Wellington, Aotearoa, with members, Al Fraser (taonga puoro), Ariana Tikao (taonga puoro & vocals), Ruby Solly (taonga puoro, vocals & cello), and Phil Boniface (double bass & taonga puoro).

The Ariana Tikao and Al Fraser duo has also been nominated for Best Group with their 2021 album ‘Nau Mai e Kā Hua’.
