Songbroker Song of the Day: Marc Chesterman '13 Lucky Stars'

Wellington-based musician Marc Chesterman has been involved in sound and music-making for various projects dating back to the early 90s including bands, theatre, dance, installation, and moving image.

He has worked as a sound designer and composer alongside film-maker Florian Habicht, including the projects ‘Love Story’, ‘Land of the Long White Cloud’, ‘Rubbings from a Live Man’, ‘Kaikohe Demolition’, ‘Woodenhead’ and ‘Spookers’ – which garnered a nomination for the APRA Best Original Music in a Feature Film Award (2017).

These projects involved a large amount of collaboration. Other film projects include sound design for Gaylene Preston’s documentary ‘Lovely Rita’, as well as composition for short films ‘Eating Sausage’ (Zia Mandviwalla), ‘Smith’s Ave’ (Robert George) and ‘Super Man’ (Peter O’Donoghue).

Chesterman has also worked as a sound designer / composer for various theatre companies including MAU, Auckland Theatre Co, Massive and Pandemonium.

His current projects include a silent film soundtrack as well as ‘Woodenhead: Reimagined’; a compilation of songs inspired by the music of Woodenhead.

Chesterman splits his time between music and work for RNZ and Sky TV.
