Henika releases her 'Strange Creatures'

Henika’s new single and video ‘Strange Creatures’ has been released on all platforms today.

‘Strange Creatures’ is the first single from the forthcoming album of the same name to be released later this year. The song is composed largely from sampled New Zealand native birdsong recorded by Henika on various predator free sanctuaries. It features the Tui as percussion, the Korimako as melodic hooks, the Kokako as chordal harmony and the Kakapo as bass.

The video was directed and edited by Henika. She also created the masks and costumes. The video features members from the contemporary dance group Dance Plant Collective with choreography from Bella Wilson.

All profits from the single go to the non-profit organisation The Supporters of Tiritiri Matangi Inc, the volunteer group helping with conservation on the island where Henika made the majority of her field recordings.

Henika (Henrieta Tornyai) is an independent alternative music producer based in Auckland, New Zealand. Born in Slovakia, she moved to NZ with her family at age 8 and soon became transfixed by the sounds of the local wildlife.
