Merry Christmas from Songbroker

 
 

Well, we made it...
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best for 2022. We wanted to recap what we have been working on of late and share news of new signings, recent releases and licensing projects.

 
 

Fiona Clark's early images captured the excitement of local gay liberation that mainstream society was not ready to accept. Lula Cucciara's doco Fiona Clark: Unafraid recounts how Clark overcame censorship, homophobia, sexism and debilitating physical injuries to become one of NZ's most respected social documentarians. Songbroker was proud to license homegrown music from artists Look Blue Go Purple, Putty in Her Hands, The Clean, The Rvmes, and The Topp Twins.

A big shout out to the following productions who licensed local music this year. TVNZ show Vegas licensed Push Push, Brokenwood Mysteries licensed Topp Twins and Jesse Wilde, feature film Millie Lies Low and The Masked Singer licensed Rikki Morris's 'Nobody Else', TV series Head High opted for the Ed Waaka track 'Clockwork', feature film Juniper licensed Jan Hellriegel's 'It's My Sin', short film The Finding chose The Verlaines 'Tomorrow Without You' and Sneaky Feelings 'Husband House' as musical backdrops, and Season 2 of Celebrity Treasure Island employed the talents of The Danny Keys Collective to create their score for the second time.

 
 

KFC New Zealand has licensed Auckland band and Songbroker Music Publishing artists THE RVMES for their latest 50th Anniversary campaign. THE RVMES’s song ‘Lifetime’ has the retro vibe and nostalgia factor that sits perfectly with the visuals of this new promotion. A big thanks to the folks at KFC for choosing and supporting local music.

My Life is Murder follows the adventures of fearless private investigator Alexa Crowe, who solves the most baffling crimes as well as coping with the frustrations of everyday life. Songbroker is very grateful to Greenstone Pictures for licensing local music, in particular Jessy & the Volunteers, Moofish, Joanna Jones, Little Bark, Erin Cole-Baker, Tattletale Saints, Hanna Grace, Catherine Tunks and Jan Hellriegel & Wayne Bell.

 
 

The Ecostore 'Back the Underbirds' campaign shines a light on lesser known endangered native birds like the Kakī, the Kakaruia and the Tuturuatu. They have used the charming Aro song 'Kererū' as a musical backdrop for these cute animations. They're also donating 50c from every Limited Edition Hand Wash bottle to Forest & Bird, to help protect all NZ native birds.

 
 

We were proud to license a number of songs for various theatre productions, museum exhibitions and podcasts this year including Douglas Lilburn for the Forrester Gallery, Soundz podcasts The Magpie House and Sonic Art plus APO livestream 'Kia Kaha' and online performances, Rob Thorne (Rattle) for the Humboldt Forum Museum Germany, David Kilgour for the Bats Theatre production Transmission, Ariana Tikao for the Hocken Library, who also licensed various songs from Look Blue Go Purple, Sneaky Feelings and The Verlaines for their 40 Years of Flying Nun exhibition.

 
 

A big thank you to all the businesses who have chosen to use local artists for their campaigns; Triton Hearing has rolled over it's Christmas creative using Evan Silva's 'This is Christmas', Homeware favourite Briscoes recently licensed the upbeat 'Happy Smiles' by Marshall Smith & Tom Fox (AKA Dreaming City), Godfrey Hirst licensed Sam RB's beautiful track 'Recommended Viewing', Destination Rotorua chose Tropical Noise's 'Seasons Come' for its School Holiday campaign, Destination Franklin licensed - ‘Ain’t No Two Ways About It (instrumental)’ Evan Silva, ‘Cattle Ranch’ Tom Downes, and ‘Jessica on Prairie Legs’ Tattletale Saints for a promotional video, Wairau River Wines used the track 'Goodbye, Adieu' by Jan Hellriegel & Wayne Bell for a podcast, and Thrasher Magazine opted for The Clean's 'Point That Thing Somewhere Else' for a skate video.
