Songbroker Welcomes James Castady-Kristament

Songbroker is pleased to welcome the songs of James Castady-Kristament to the catalogue under his monikers JCK and Black Velvet Butterfly.

JCK is all about creativity and originality with his gothic imagery, catchy well-crafted songs and captivating music videos that work to set him apart.

He is a multi-instrumentalist, rapper and singer who produces his own music and films, directs and edits his own music videos.

JCK has a unique approach to rap with a strong kiwi accent that gives his music and sound a whole new dimension, similar to what you might find in the evolution of U.K grime music.

Likened to Eminem, Everlast, Die Antwoord and Dizzee Rascal, his music ranges from synth heavy and danceable club bangers to more organic sounding rap ballads that are stripped back to drums, acoustic guitar and harmonica.

Black Velvet Butterfly is a Gothic-Rock band from Auckland, New Zealand who take influence from the likes of Type O Negative, Black Sabbath, and Ghost.

Their sound is described as slow, pounding, gloomy-doom metal with baritone crooning vocals that bursts to life with high soaring notes that crash headfirst into blasting beats and screaming vocals.

Their debut single O.M.G (Oh My Goth) was released in August 2019 and is a traditional goth track with moments of slow doom, accompanied by a vampiric animated music video.

Black Velvet Butterfly has been steadily dropping singles since, with their debut full length album set for release in early 2021.
