Mika to perform at Auckland Writers Festival
Queer performance artist Mika Haka has developed stage shows that have toured the world. He runs a charitable foundation Mika Haka Foundation, for creative young performers from diverse backgrounds and is the subject of Sharon Mazer’s 2018 biography I Have Loved Me a Man.
I Have Loved Me a Man is a cabaret chronicling the progress of a queer brown boy making his way from Timaru Boys High student and South Island disco champion to Los Angeles and the festivals of Edinburgh (ten times), performing with, amongst others, Grace Jones.
With a sultry voice and glam costumes, Mika tells his story in his own inimitable style, with Penny Dodd at the piano.
