Riqi Harawira releases new album 'Mauri'
Riqi Harawira is an engaging performer whose music is about rising above negative statistics Maori face today, and the adverse affects of addiction and abuse.
Says Rigi, “Top of my list are pathways out of addiction because I have been there myself.”
Riqis message is positive and powerful ,combining indigenous instruments, lead rock guitar with Maori weaponry, creating a style and sound that Riqi calls Maori fusion - a mix of contemporary indigenous music with authentic traditional roots.
With heartfelt vocals and universal messages of hope in English and Te reo, Riqi has just released his second album Mauri on Jan 18th 2019 through Waatea music.
This bilingual album features the singles “Kia ora”, “Wairua Tuturu”, “Self Determination” and “Rise up “- a track dedicated to Greg Boyed (NZ journalist) who lost his life in 2018 from depression and suicide, another kaupapa Riqi feels strongly about.
Riqis is touring the North Island this Feb and March 2019 to celebrate the release of Mauri and has aspirations to perform at international & local festivals as an indigenous performer.
