The 2020 Best Folk Artist finalists have been announced and Paper Cranes have been named alongside Mel Parsons and Victoria Vigenser & Lindsay Martin. Husband-and-wife team Fraser and Naomi Browne are the musicians behind Paper Cranes , creating songs that ponder the meaning of life and love with captivating and dynamic live performances. The duo have gigged regularly and have been on several nationwide tours in support of their releases, Oh, Love!, The Road Home, and their latest album Voices - a slice of folky pop goodness that brings a mixture of Japanese, Swedish and Australasia influences. The Auckland Folk Festival is held over Anniversary Weekend in January, with the Best Folk Artist Tui presented on the Sunday evening. The feature-length plant-based documentary The Big FAT Lie saw its international release yesterday. The film tells the story of Grant Dixon at age 58, being rushed to hospital with a heart attack, where he is told he needs open-heart surgery. Later Grant discovers how a whole food plant-based diet could turn his health around. The Big FAT Lie was accepted into five international film festivals and won Best Documentary and Best Message at the Top Indie Film Awards. Grant licensed Jocee Tuck’s wonderful compositions from her album, Mt Dora, as the musical backdrop to his film.
