Songbroker Welcomes The Frank Burkitt Band
Songbroker is very pleased to welcome the music of The Frank Burkitt Band to the roster.
The Frank Burkitt Band play original music inspired by folk, jazz, blues, swing, soul and American Roots.
This string band has become popular throughout New Zealand thanks to their entertaining performances, strong musicianship and fantastic song-writing, they’ll make you dance, laugh, listen and cry (in good way).
Formed in early 2014, Frank put an ad for a double bass player on a notice board in the New Zealand School of Music, shortly after Frank and lifelong partner and backing vocalist Kara Filbey moved to Wellington from Scotland.
Jazz student James Geluk answered the call and after meeting Cameron Dusty Burnell who added Mandolin/Banjo, the band took shape and in the last 3 years, released their debut album Fools & Kings in 2015, which reached No.12 in the Official NZ Music Charts.
They have embarked on several national tours and have played several festivals across NZ.
Inspired by artists such as Pokey Lafarge, Nina Simone and The Wood Brothers, they play high energy, original music written by Burkitt and arranged by the band.
