JACKIE BRISTOW RETURNS HOME WITH 'SHOT OF GOLD'
After opening for Tommy Emmanuel's current USA tour, Jackie Bristow returns to New Zealand for a 16-date solo tour to celebrate the release of her 4th studio album Shot of Gold, out on February 5th.
Jackie says, “Shot of Gold, is an album of real stories and experiences in my life - songs of struggle, joy, love, loss and healing. I was living in Austin Texas when I wrote this album and was inspired by southern blues and country roots music and the people I met in great live music scene. I stepped away from trying to write commercial mainstream music and wrote stories from my heart and my life. This is why we recorded this album with raw and sparse production built around my live solo performances."
The lead single ‘I Don’t Want To Come Down’ showcases the beautifully restrained, considered but confident nature of the album, produced by renowned Australian musician and longtime collaborator, Mark Punch (Kasey Chambers, Jimmy Barnes). Sparse acoustic picking and washes of slide guitar leave space for Bristow’s assured soulful voice as she tells the intimate story of euphoric love.
‘Fallen Youth’ borrows the lyrics from a poem written by an unnamed ANZAC WW1 soldier found in the public library of Jackie's hometown of Gore. Written in remembrance of the Gallipoli 100 year reunion, the single was released in March 2015.
"I have always had a gypsy spirit and my roots in music started in country music.” Says Bristow. “My parents drove my sister and I all over the South Island to perform in music festivals and competitions. It was a lifestyle I got use to at very young age. I dreamed of traveling the world making a living playing my own music but New Zealand will always be where my heart is. I am very happy to be back home to tour and support my new album."
Bristow has opened for international stars Bonnie Raitt, Tommy Emmanuel, Marc Cohn, John Oates, John Waite, Bettye Lavette, B.J. Thomas, Joe Ely, Marcia Ball, Charlie Robison, Rick Springfield, Bob Schneider, Jimmy Lafave, Euge Groove, Ruthie Foster, Art Garfunkel, Willy Porter, Herbert Gronemeyer, Madeline Peryoux, Phoebe Snow, Daniel Lanois, Jimmy Webb, Paul Williams and Howard Jones.
