SONGBROKER ARTIST PROFILE: Q & A with Gareth Thomas
When did you realise you wanted to make music?
I was a homesick 9 year old in Canada. It was 40 below zero in winter and Split Enz was topping the Canadian charts. "Time and Tide" made me decide that I wanted to learn the piano.
Name two major musical influences and why?
Split Enz because they were absolutely awesome.
Lou Reed because he proved that you don't need to sing in tune if you've got something to say.
What do you find most challenging about the creative process?
Is self-promotion part of the creative process? I struggle with that - but I guess it's all part of being a New Zealander.
What do you want people to take away from your music?
Their own interpretations. It's the biggest compliment when someone covers your song.
Whatโs in the pipeline for 2016?
A brand new album called "Fizzy Milk"
