Del Thomas has been playing guitar since he was a young kid. Having watched the Beatles, Stones and Kinks on TV, he was bitten by the singer/songwriter bug.
As with most guitarists, he cut his teeth on the instrument by playing along to his favourite records (The Eagles, Poco and Lynyrd Skynyrd to Bonnie Raitt and Ry Cooder) but his interest was always in players who had a more melodic playing style and who played for the song.
After moving to Wellington from Scotland in 1995 he started a band. Glass Onion played original pop/rock and released a 4 track EP in 1997 garnering airplay on several Wellington radio stations as well as supporting acts such as Collective Soul, The Exponents, Midge Marsden and The Muttonbirds.
After Glass Onion folded Del put together a blues based covers band The Pukekos who played extensively around Wellington in the early nought’s, then a 3-year stint followed with covers band, SilverLine.
More recently Del has formed Manalishi, a band paying tribute to the blues of early Fleetwood Mac and Peter Green.
Many of Del's songs come from a mix of personal experience, observation of other people’s situations or ideas that might just come from an overheard comment in another conversation. Each song comes complete with an up-tempo beat, catchy chorus and bluesy guitar hooks.
