THE GARY HARVEY BAND

THE GARY HARVEY BAND

Despite the indifference of mainstream media in New Zealand, Harvey is an irrepressible character who just keeps doing it. He and his current band — himself, longtime pal Abbott, drummer Mike Beck and rejoining the band, Adam ‘Strayfalcon’ Renata — play often enough to keep sharp, Harvey travels to the States when he can afford it and has a longtime passionate association with Native Americans.

The Gary Harvey Band are a blues rock band based in Auckland, New Zealand.

The band has become known for its strong blues roots, steeped in the sounds emanating along Highway 61 andinspired musically by both American and British blues rock music.  In an interview, they cited some of the bands that had the biggest influence on them, which included Free, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tom Petty, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Joe Bonamassa,The Foo Fighters, Allman Brothers, The Rolling Stones, ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Currently For What Its Worth remains the group’s most commercially successful album to date.  The band has always had a strong presence in the live music scene, with numerous festivals, tours and TV appearances, remaining active recording and producing new material.  Their latest release Ghost Dance has been received well by the media and fans, and will be available soon on iTunes and Spotify.

From the indo-psychedelic rock of Mr Healy, this band can do head-down barroom boogie with the best (Nuthin’ But the Blues) and deliver mainstream, angry urban hard rock (Tired of Thinkin’, Boss Mama) for the car radio on a straight strip of road.
