NZ MUSIC MONTH : WHAT'S ON THIS WEEK

In the spirit of NZ Music Month and the celebration of local music, several Songbroker artists are taking the opportunity to play out this May. Here are just a few shows to look out for this week:

Wednesday May 10th sees Jonathan Crayford duo Spanner perform at Golden Dawn and every consecutive Wednesday in May.  A rhythm section that has mutinied from the band. The pair form a dynamically interactive punk jazz grungy hard belting-it-out free form indie type vibe music engine.

Greg Fleming and the Working Poor team up with a selection of local talent at Flight 605 this Thursday May 11th. Fleming has built up a reputation as a razor sharp songwriter - adept in a wide range of styles and settings.

American blues act Aaron Carpenter and The Revelators team up with fellow Songbroker artist Jesse Wilde for a rollicking show at The Tuning Fork on Saturday the 13th May. Carpenter has a gift for articulating the plight of the downtrodden and misunderstood and stepping inside his fellow man’s boots, feeling the wear on the sole. Southern Folk Rock singer Jesse Wilde is renowned for his onstage presence, ability to rock the house and connect with any audience.

Folk popsters Echo Children join the line up with Velvetland and Sushi Cat at Portland Public House on Saturday May 13th. This four piece have created a sound which fuses the lyrical songwriting of the likes of Springsteen and Ryan Adams with the spine chilling harmonies of Fleetwood Mac.
