Kelvin Roy is a New Zealand based musician and composer.
Somewhat of a travelling troubadour, Roy has made music in various parts of the US including Lafayette and New Orleans, Los Angeles and San Francisco before settling in Auckland where he started various bands of different musical inclinations including BlueStars and Jews Brothers, the Nairobi Trio and Latin American-inspired band Sonora.
In New Zealand Roy released four adult contemporary albums under his label Martian Music including the 1997 release Inner Space ("A consummate and seamless blend of “adult oriented pop” Gary Steel) followed by Just Can’t Stop ("...this album is a musical Big Kids Meal with Toy included" Javier Antonio Quinones Ortiz, All About Jazz) andTimes of Our Lives.
Around the World of Music Live at the Loaded Hog was Roy’s live jazz album that ascended the top 20 of the jazz charts on CMJ Network stations in the United States.
After continuing the BlueStars band for a spell in Adelaide, Australia, Roy returned to New Zealand, working his way around the country and eventually landing in Wellington. Roy has released 11 children's albums to date. His song "Countdown" from the Jollytime album was nominated for APRA Children's Song of the Year in 2012.
In May 2015, Roy released another album Overlap with eminent guitarist Nigel Gavin.
